Utah Fits All (UFA): reimbursement, caps and allowed expenses

Two things trip Utah families up: the receipt rules (one itemized point-of-sale receipt that also proves payment — no screenshots or statements) and the caps (extracurricular and PE are each capped at 20% of the award). Watch both and reimbursements go smoothly.

How you spend (Odyssey wallet)

• Odyssey Marketplace — pre-approved vendors, paid directly, no receipts needed.
• Direct tuition — paid from the wallet to Odyssey-approved private schools.
• Reimbursement — for eligible purchases you make outside the Marketplace.

What a reimbursement needs

A single itemized point-of-sale receipt that is both proof of purchase and proof of payment: vendor name, transaction date, itemized items, total with taxes and fees, and the payment method (for card purchases, the last four digits). Not accepted: Venmo/Zelle/PayPal/Cash App screenshots, bank or card statements, handwritten receipts, invoices, order confirmations without proof of payment, non-itemized receipts, or photos of checks. Reimbursements are processed within about 10 business days and are final once paid.

Award amounts (2026-27)

The scholarship year runs July 1 – June 30, and unused funds roll over while the student stays eligible.

The caps to watch

• Extracurricular activities: 20% of the award.
• Physical education: 20% of the award.
• Transportation: fee-for-service rides to a provider, max $750/year.
• Electronics: per-item caps — computers/tablets/printers $1,500, monitors/cameras $500, headphones $200.

These caps apply across Marketplace and reimbursement combined, and when a cap is hit you can't shift the spending to another category.

Allowed expense categories

• Tutoring; after-school and summer education programs
• Extracurricular activities and physical education (each capped at 20%)
• Fine arts instruction; educational therapies
• Textbooks, curriculum and instructional materials
• Educational software and applications; educational supplies
• Musical instrument rental (rental only)
• Electronics (quantity- and price-capped)
• Transportation (max $750/year)
• Tuition and education fees, including exam fees

Things that are not allowed

Examples: ski passes and recreational access, furniture, apparel and uniforms, musical-instrument purchases, entertainment streaming, smartphones and smartwatches, PE equipment (bikes, weights, trampolines), food, and bulk/resale purchases.
