Wyoming Steamboat Legacy Scholarship (ESA): receipts and reimbursement

Wyoming's ESA has one deadline that catches families out: reimbursement requests are due within 30 days of the purchase. Miss that window and the claim is gone. Keep an itemized receipt plus proof of payment for every purchase and submit it right away.

How you spend (Odyssey)

• Odyssey Marketplace — buy eligible products and services from approved vendors.
• Reimbursement — for qualified purchases made outside the Marketplace when an item or service can't be added there, you pay out of pocket and request reimbursement in the WDE portal.

Award and deposits (2026-27)

$7,000 per student per year (K-12, no income cap; Pre-K at or below 250% of the federal poverty level). It's deposited in equal quarterly installments starting July 1.

The 30-day rule

Reimbursement requests must be submitted within 30 days of the purchase, and the Department decides within 30 days. Except for tuition and fees, you must pay after the service is provided or the product ships. So the habit that works is: buy, photograph the receipt, submit — same week.

What a reimbursement needs

An itemized receipt showing the vendor, date, total charges, an itemized list with a full description, and the proof of payment method — plus separate proof of payment. Handwritten receipts are not accepted.

Allowed expense categories

• Private-school tuition and fees
• Educational therapies
• Tutoring (not from a family member)
• Curriculum and instructional materials
• Online learning programs
• Dual-enrollment college courses; career and technical school
• Testing, assessments and test prep
• Technology — hardware, software and assistive technology
• Contracted public-school classes and extracurriculars
• Summer and specialized after-school programs (not childcare)
• Fee-for-service transportation to an education service provider
• School uniforms

Things that are not allowed

Examples: childcare, tutoring by a family member, personal deposits into the account, and non-educational items.
