If your state runs its ESA on ClassWallet or Odyssey, the platform decides how you spend, what receipts you need, and how reimbursements work. They're similar in spirit but different in the details that get purchases approved or denied.
Who uses which
- ClassWallet — Arizona ESA, Arkansas EFA (and others).
- Odyssey — Utah Fits All (and others). Texas TEFA also runs on Odyssey, but pays vendors directly and does not reimburse parents.

The receipt rule is different
- ClassWallet programs generally want an itemized receipt, and for reimbursements, a separate proof of payment too. Card purchases need documentation or the card can be suspended. See ClassWallet receipt requirements.
- Odyssey wants one itemized point-of-sale receipt that also proves payment — everything on a single document, no screenshots or statements. See the Odyssey rule.
What trips families up on each
- ClassWallet: overdue receipts suspend the debit card; a blocked merchant category declines a purchase. See card declined or suspended.
- Odyssey: sending an invoice plus a separate screenshot instead of one combined POS receipt.
What's the same
Both require itemized receipts, both enforce allowed-category lists and often caps, and both have deadlines. Whichever platform your state uses, the winning habit is identical: capture every itemized receipt the moment you buy, tag it, and submit before the deadline.
